Small unicode symbols punch above their weight in Minecraft UIs: a ★ in a rank name, ❤ in a donation message, or → in a menu lore line. The hard part is knowing which glyphs the default font actually draws.

Browse and copy — use the free Unicode Symbols reference for labelled picks and searchable categories.

Section 01

Symbols server owners use most

  • ★ ✦ • — bullets and rank flair
  • ❤ ♥ — lives, donations, soft branding
  • → ← ▲ ▼ — menu navigation hints
  • ✓ ✗ — enabled / disabled states in GUIs
  • § — legacy colour/format codes (see below)

Prefer one consistent set across ranks and menus so the UI feels intentional rather than random emoji soup.

Section 02

Section sign and colour codes

The section sign (§) starts legacy colour and format codes in Minecraft (§a, §l, §x…). Many configs prefer & instead, which plugins translate to § at runtime.

Do not paste raw § into YAML without quoting — it can confuse parsers. Prefer '&aHello' or MiniMessage tags. See the MiniMessage and colour codes guide.

Section 03

Lore and GUI patterns

  1. Pick a symbol from the reference and copy it.
  2. Paste into item lore, menu titles, or chat formats.
  3. Add colour with MiniMessage or legacy codes around the symbol.
  4. Check line length — wide symbols can wrap lore awkwardly.

Example lore-style line (legacy amp codes):

- '&7★ &fRare drop chance'
- '&7→ &eClick to open'

For whole-word fancy lettering (small caps, bold unicode), use the Text Converter instead of stacking symbols.

Section 04

Compatibility notes

  • Java Edition 1.20+ with the default font covers the common picks in our reference.
  • Bedrock and heavily customised resource packs may hide or replace glyphs.
  • Some chat plugins strip or normalise unusual characters — test after paste.
  • Validate YAML after inserting symbols into quoted strings.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the § character used for?

The section sign starts legacy Minecraft colour and format codes. In most plugin configs you should use & instead and let the plugin translate it.

Why does a symbol show as a box?

The client font is missing that glyph — common on Bedrock or custom packs. Pick another symbol from the reference and retest.

Can I use emoji in Minecraft chat?

Some emoji work on modern Java clients; many do not. Prefer the labelled unicode symbols known to render in the default font.
